Yobe SPMU established 1,151 HA plantation for the new 233 Batalion Barracks and additional 10.6HA Level II field Hospital along Damaturu-Potiskum way leading to an award of Excellence to Yobe ACReSAL by the Sector Commander Brig Gen M.C.Ejike

In continuation of Yobe SPMU effort to restore additional lands as targeted in the workplan, about 38HA was planted in the newly constructed Police Headquarters and Police Command Secondary School to create a better vegetation cover for the new premises.

AFFORESTATION/LAND RESTORATION ACTIVITIES AT YOBE STATE UINVERSITY (185HA)

Yobe SPMU supported the Yobe State University campus with the establishment of a 185HA plantation covering the premises of the New Faculty of Agriculture, Convocation Ground and Collage of Medical Sciences.
Additionally, ACReSAL re-stocked the University Botanical Garden with Additional nursery pieces of equipment (tools) for the upkeep of their seedlings.

Support for NYSC tree planting campaign (60HA).

Restoration of 384Ha Nguru Wetland through the procurement of Amphiboius Excavator

Even though only 385 of the targeted 5,000 ha since been cleared, the impacts are already visible and tangible: Fishermen have returned to their boats, farmers have gone back to their farmlands, migrants are making their way back to Nguru to return to their previous jobs; downstream farmers can now irrigate their land; fish catch and harvests have increased, improving incomes and related livelihoods.

LANDSCAPE INVESTMENT

  • Sand dune establishment interventions including the establishment and maintenance of plant nurseries of assorted species and post-planting operations in Yobe State.
  • Watershed and catchment management interventions to better control sedimentation into existing dams
  • Construction or rehabilitation of integrated small storage/small dams multipurpose reservours and irrigation development
  • Flood control and erosion works to improve landscape functions, and sensitization, mobilization and organization of communities to manage erosion and prevent disasters in Yobe State.
  • Identification and development of recharge areas to protect groundwater resources in Yobe State.
  • Large-scale agricultural investments such as rangeland management through the improvement of fooder and fooder nurseries as well as integrated pest management program in Yobe.
